Your viewing a wood trivet made from cherry, ambrosia maple and walnut. I have one I made several years ago that sits next to the stove, at the ready, for casseroles, baking/cookie sheets that come out of the oven. These are made very sturdy and will stand up to the rigors of a demanding kitchen - and they're eye catching as well! IT IS NOT recommended to place hot skillets directly from the stove onto the trivet as this will scorch and permanently discolor the wood.
ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION: The slats are glued and nailed onto the runners. Sometimes there is a SMALL amount of glue that squeezes out on the underside of the trivet - this is normal and is not visible when the trivet is in use. The holes left from the nailing gun are NOT filled and are visible.
They are finished with mineral oil.
NOTE: You are purchasing a trivet that will have similarities to the ones in the above photos. No two are identical. As the above photos indicate, I use either walnut or cherry wood for the runners on the trivets.
